Pipe Sweep: Queralt Castellet, Gretchen Bleiler and Ellery Hollingsworth Dominate Canadian Open Halfpipe Podium

Oh Canada…just got owned by the Oakley Women’s Snowboard Team.

Lead by the Big O’s Spanish ripper, Queralt Castellet, the Halfpipe Podium at the Canadian Open was rounded out by fellow Oakley riders Gretchen Bleiler and Ellery Hollingsworth for a full sweep.

It was Q’s second run of the Finals on Friday night that locked in her resounding victory – throwing down a frontside 900, backside 540 mute, frontside 540, backside air and her very first fronside 1080 for an 84.73 to seal the deal.

“I am very excited to win tonight as this was my first time at the Canadian Open, my first time landing a frontside 1080 and my first time winning at an Open,” said Queralt, who became just the second women’s rider to stomp a 1080 in the Halfpipe contest. “I feel really, really good tonight.”

Q, rocking her Oakley Snow Goggles in every contest, has regularly graced the podiums on the Global Open Series and the TTR World Tour. The bite-sized Spaniard powered herself into the second position in the TTR Women’s Overall Rankings after impressive displays at the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix at Copper Mountain, Colo. and the New Zealand Open in Summer.

Topped off by some big podium results on the Winter Dew Tour and her two Winter Olympic appearances, she’s emerging as a major contender and a threat to unseat the sport’s clear marquee rider on the women’s side: Kelly Clark.

Another Oakley star, Gretchen, signaled that she’s back in top form – topping the field in the semifinals and charging into the finals with a second run of 81.28. Throwing down a frontside crippler, backside 540 mute, frontside 720 tail grab, Cab 720 indy and a frontside tail grab, her solid run was enough for an overall second place finish.

All in all, it was one killer outing for the women’s team in Canada!
