Mikkel Bang Wins Slopestyle Event in New Zealand; Oakley Riders Sweep Top 3
Mikkel Bang left no question that he deserved the hefty winner’s check at the first Burton ‘High Fives’ Slopestyle Jam in Wanaka, New Zealand. After a solid first run that placed him atop the standings, he pulled out all the big tricks on his second run (switch backside 1, front 270, back 5, switch back 12, front 10 double, and a backside rodeo 5 stale over the final hip jump) for a 95.40, sealing the win for the young Norwegian.
As one judge put it: “Mikkel’s run had everything: it was tech, it had the spins, and it was totally stomped. It was the complete package.”
Bang had some familiar faces surrounding him when the top three were announced: fellow Oakley team riders Seb Toutant and Stale Sandbech finished second and third, respectively.
