Full Podium Sweep in the Women’s K2 500m

It was Germany all the way in the women’s double kayak 500m.

Leading into the final however, it was defending champions Katalin Kovacs and Natasa Douchev-Janics of Hungary, who were the heavy favorites.

Franziska Weber and Tina Dietze had other plans. The German duo powered their way into an early lead and could not be caught despite the best efforts of their competitors. Ultimately, claiming the title as their own, finishing 1.06 seconds ahead of the Hungarians.

In the battle for third, it was Karolina Naja and Beata Mikolajczyk of Poland, who narrowly beat China to edge their way into the final podium position.
