Bubba of Old: James Stewart Dominates Lucas Oil Pro Motocross-Freestone, Tallies Four Wins In a Row
The last time James Stewart raced a full Outdoors season, he slayed it with an absolutely perfect, undefeated season.
Fast forward to 2012, and Bubba is giving the World flashes of…well, the old Bubba.
In his first season riding for Yoshimura Suzuki in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, Oakley’s Motocross Superstar utterly owned both Motos at Freestone, fending off challenges to tally four straight moto victories on the season.
And at some points in the Texas sun this past weekend, it didn’t even seem fair.
Smashing through the first lap in the first Moto in the lead, Bubba never looked back, gapping the field for the victory.
The second Moto was more of the same – but with intense challenges from fellow Oakley star Ryan Dungey, who claimed an overall second place finish, on his Factory KTM. Bubba fought off every attempt and charge, however, powering his way to the win.
“It was a good race,” Bubba said, rocking his Oakley JS7 Signature Series Motocross Goggles. “It was warm, but I was able to get two good starts and I actually led every lap. We made a few changes to the Yoshimura Suzuki RM-Z450 after the first moto and the team’s just gelling. We had an hour and 10 minutes worth of battle and I was able to get the job done.”
It’s safe to say that Bubba is back in top form – proudly bearing the standings leader’s red number plate and just flat out looking really, really fast on the track.
“Now, we’re going to Colorado, and Lakewood is not one of my better tracks. But we’re going in there with the red plate. Also, it’s at altitude so it’ll be another tough race, but the team has a really good set-up for me with the Yoshimura Suzuki RM-Z450 and we’ll do our best to put it on the podium.”
