At The Fontana City National, the start of the National mountain bike racing season, Oakley athletes dominated, winning a total of 8 medals. The Fontana race is known for its “urban singletrack” and normally exciting atmosphere as all the best racers amass to kick off the new season.

In the Pro Men division Oakley sweeped the podiom with Todd Wells winning, Geoff Kabush taking second, Max Plaxton in third, Sid Taberlay in fourth and Sam Schultz in fifth. In the Pro Women Oakley’s Lene Byberg outperformed the field and took the win while Oakley’s Willow Koerber placed third and Oakley’s Alison Mann took fifth.

In the men’s race off the line Oakley’s Todd Wells seemed determined to make amends for his broken chain from Fontana last season.

Throughout the race the leaders shuffled their positions, but no one could break free into the stiff head winds.

Finally in the last lap Wells emerged leading with Kabush locked on his back wheel.

Todd Wells took the win three-tenths of a second in front of Kabush. Plaxton crossed the line a few seconds later.

In the women’s Oakley’s Lene Byberg entered the race as the favorite due to her second place in the World Championships and she did not disappoint.

After the first lap Byberg broke free of her counterparts and in the end she won by over a minute.
