LPGA Star Ai Miyazato Rallies To Win Walmart NW Arkansas Championship

Ai Miyazato

Japanese LPGA golfer Ai Miyazato entered the final round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship tied for fourth place. It took a remarkable final day, 6-under 65 to rally from behind to capture the title. Her victory in Arkansas was her second LPGA win of the year and the ninth of her six-year career on tour. She shot an impressive 12-under for the tournament, narrowly defeating fellow Japanese pro, and good friend, Mika Miyazato.

Sporting a pair of white Oakley Flak Jackets on a hot and muggy day at Pinnacle Country Club, Ai Miyazato rallied under the most pressure packed conditions. She overcame a five-shot deficit on the final day to secure the tournament victory. Capitalizing on a missed 15-foot birdie attempt from Mika Miyazato, Ai Miyazato sunk a 5-foot birdie putt on the final hole to secure the victory. The winner on the weekend tallied seven birdies in the final round, finishing one stroke ahead fellow Oakley golfers Mika Miyazato and Azahara Munoz.

“I knew I needed to make lots of birdies today,” Ai Mayazato said about her final round. “But I didn’t have any expectation and I didn’t have any pressure in the front nine. So that’s why I think I could focus my game and have four birdies on the front nine.”

The Walmart NW Arkansas Championship has been kind to Ai Miyazato, as she has finished in the top ten in the tournament for the past four years. She earned $300,000 with her win, moving her to 21st on the career money list. The victory is also projected to move her from sixth to third in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

Congratulations to Miyazato on her win over the weekend and continued success this season
