ASP Pro Junior Surfer Kanoa Igarashi Joins Oakley Team With A Splash

Talk about making an entrance…

Fourteen-year-old Huntington Beach, CA sensation Kanoa Igarashi proved an instant success as the newest member of the Oakley surf team. Kanoa teamed up with Oakley in early 2012 and won his career first ASP Pro Junior event, the ASP 1-Star DNA Energy Pro Junior at New Smyrna Beach Inlet in Florida over the weekend.

Kanoa fought off challenging conditions in three-to-four foot storm surf to outlast the field and secure victory. The young Oakley rider stood out from the onset of the tournament all the way to the finals, claiming five of the six heats along the way. Kanoa credited his experience in his native waters of Huntington Beach for the ease of which he tamed the rocky Florida conditions.

“This is the strongest wind I’ve ever felt in my life and it’s in a contest,” Kanoa said. “It is what it is and I’m super stoked that I won. I surf Huntington a lot and it’s windy too. It’s not this windy, but it’s a beachbreak like here and I get to practice in similar conditions and I had a good board for this event.”

Kanoa’s win earned him crucial points towards his seed on the ASP North American Pro Junior series.

Congrats on your first ASP win and welcome to the team Kanoa!
